International Policy of Sumy National Agrarian University
The success of an agrarian higher educational institution is impossible without dynamic international cooperation and establishing ties with global educational and research centers. Therefore, development of bilateral and multilateral international relations,
educational and scientific projects belong to the main tasks of Sumy National Agrarian University. The Department of International Cooperation, established in 1995, coordinates a complex set of international relations.
In spite of a quite young age of the Institution (30 years), SNAU has become a well-known center of international education and scientific connections. Cooperation with foreign partners is implemented in different important directions using various organizational forms: starting with students and teaching staff academic mobility and participation in the international conferences, workshops, panel discussions up to implementation of common educational programmes and participation in different international scientific and educational organizations.
At the moment there are more than 60 agreements about different kinds and forms of cooperation signed with foreign partners from 15 countries. The activity of SNAU in international educational area is focused on the long-term programmes and projects which are aimed to improve the quality of educational and scientific activity according to the world standards.
The international partners of SNAU are: the Neurtingen-Geislingen University and the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (Germany), the Centre for Practical Preparation of Agroindustrial Complex Specialists DEULA-Nienburg, the Ecological Association “LOGO”– agriculture and ecological balance with Eastern Europe (Germany), the Association of the Farmers of Germany, the Union “Agrospecialist” and “Apolo” (Germany), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (Austria), University of Molise (Italy), Agrarian University – Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW (Poland), the University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz (Poland), the University of Euroregional Economy in Uzefuw (Poland), the University of Warmina and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland), the Ohio State University (USA), the Minnesota State University (USA).

Common education programmes are the priority. Implementation of such educational programmes is important for SNAU on its way to successful joining the Bologna Process, which is recognized by leading European universities as the system of certification, accreditation and assessment of students’ knowledge. First of all, we should admit the International Master Programme, established within the framework of collaboration with Weihenstephan University of Applied Science. Since December 2001 Sumy National Agrarian University has become an official partner of DAAD “German Academic Exchange Service” and signed the agreements about cooperation with four Partner Universities: Weihenstephan University of Applied Science, Kyiv National Agrarian University, Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, Alma-Ata National Agrarian University. According to the agreement, mutual approval of educational credits is implemented and double diplomas are issued (Ukrainian and German state sample of diplomas).
SNAU has been cooperating with Polish higher educational institutions for a long time within the framework of academic mobility of students and professor staff. During 1-2 semesters students study at the Pprtner University and the credits obtained are recognized by both sides. The lecturers have an opportunity to get a scientific training in the field of their research as well. Together with Neurtingen University of Applied Science SNAU is also a participant of the project of DAAD “Leonhard Euler Scholar Programme”, in the context of which young scientists make their researches both in Ukraine and in Germany.
In the area international cooperation we pay special attention to the delegations from the foreign universities and partner organizations, which visit our institution for conducting mutual workshops, conferences, lectures and practical courses. There is a strong tendency for intensifying this kind of exchanges: thus, more than 70 delegations visit our university annually.
Arranging internships abroad takes an important place in the system of SNAU international relations. Annually, there is a constantly increasing number of students, post-graduates and lecturers, who have an opportunity to obtain a specialized professional training at the agricultural enterprises of Germany, Austria, Poland, the USA and some other countries. Every year the number of participants is rising. During practical academic semester students and graduates of our university acquire professional skills and get knowledge in different spheres of agribusiness, learn modern technologies of production and improve their language skills.
Thus, the international activity of Sumy National Agrarian University is aimed at our university success within the global educational area, which promotes subsequent high-quality development of the university.
