VI Regional Forum “Organic Ukraine Sumy”, held on April 18, 2017 in Sumy National Agrarian University, brought together government officials, farmers engaged in organic production, students and SNAU teachers.
“Our students can be a solid core of organic farming in Sumy, - Volodymyr Ladyka, the SNAU rector, said - because the knowledge gained at university enables them to start their own business and be successful entrepreneurs. While organic products are traditionally in high demand in the world and this tendency keeps on going”.
The speech of Olena Berezovska, president of the public association “Organic Ukraine” was also of great interest. The public association of producers of certified organic products “Organic Ukraine” was established in 2012. Its initiators were six companies that produce milk, groceries, vegetables, tea and oil. Now it combines over 30 organic producers and about 20 more companies are willing to join the association.
The seminar considered the issues of organic certification, funds compensation, and peculiarities of introducing food systems. Farmers shared their experience, namely, the director of LLC “Romny Foods” Dmytro Samofalov, a SNAU graduate and a successful farmer described the dynamics and prospects of a berry-growing farm. An associate professor of Plant cultivation department Volodymyr Ilchenko spoke about the use of compost in organic production.
The speaker and moderator of the event Andrii Marahovskyi, the chairperson of the public association “Organic Ukraine North”, shared the experience of training in Germany and spoke on the strategic plan for the association development in sales of organic products and cooperation with the Association of organic producers in Europe “Bioland”.
The seminar was held in a relaxed democratic atmosphere.
