In the framework of the XIX Rally of agricultural universities’ student leaders the first stage of agrodebate was held in Sumy National Agrarian University on April 19, 2017. 8 teams, one from each faculty, comprised of three members - students and post-graduates, were distributed into those who were “for” and “against” discussing agrarian and political issues.
What is an agrarian and political debate? It is an effective educational technology, designed to promote the development of logical and critical thinking, communication culture and public speaking skills. Participating in the debate provides an opportunity for young professionals to develop teamwork, choose the appropriate partners, concentrate on the essence of the problem and defend their views on important for Ukraine agrarian and political issues.
The organizer of the debate was the scientific center “Ahroosvita” with the technical support of the project “German-Ukrainian agropolitical dialogue” (APD). All agricultural educational institutions of Ukraine participate in the debate. The first phase, conducted on the basis of each institution, will determine the winning team at the university, which will then take part in the final stage at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.
To determine a sure winner, the jury were guided by such criteria as culture of debate, competent speech and oratory skills, and efficient use of the arguments of opponents in their speech.
The following topics were raised: “Removal of the moratorium on sale of agricultural land - the introduction of a free land market”, “The abolition of the special tax regime for agricultural producers (Group 4) and application of the general taxation system of value added tax (VAT)”, “Authorization to use genetically modified products (GMO products) in food for people and feed for animals as a guarantee of food security of Ukraine” and “Support of family farms - reducing the impact of large farms / holdings”.
Following the debate, the teams of the Faculty of Economics and Management and Biology-technological Faculty shared the first place, and the Faculty of Law took the second place. A student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Liudmyla Zhurba became the sure winner, so she will represent our university at the final stage in Kyiv.
