On February 27, a seminar on "Community Development: Potential, Opportunities and Tools" was held at SNAU. The partners of the event were represented by Sumy Regional State Administration and the Reform Office at Sumy Regional Office of the Association of Ukrainian Cities.
More than 30 officials of the joint territorial communities of the region took part in the seminar, the majority of members of the event were presented by the students of the Master's course "Regional Management". Rector of SNAU Volodymyr Ladyka in his welcoming speech stressed the importance of cooperation between higher educational institutions, local self-government bodies and executive authorities in the period of the establishment of UTC, and proposed an effective mechanism for cooperation between SNAU and communities in the development of rural areas.
The first session of the event was opened by the deputy chairman, chief of staff of Sumy Regional State Administration Dmytro Zhyvytsky. The official talked about clusters as a tool of the regional development of Sumy region, the potential of the united communities of the region and plans of the regional state administration regarding their support.
Besides, the official stressed the importance of the interaction of local self-government and executive authorities with business for sustainable development of communities.
The next speakers were Associate Professor of the Architectural Department of SNAU Artem Boroday and the Dean of the Faculty of Law Svitlana Zapara who spoke about the peculiarities of the process of preparation of urban planning documentation on the example of Verkhosulka village council and on the legal support of the UTC activity. In her speech, Svitlana Zapara outlined the practical directions of the close cooperation of the UTC with the university in matters of land use and legal support of the activities of local self-government bodies.
After the break, the second session of the seminar began. It was opened by the Director of the Department of Agricultural Development of Sumy Regional State Administration Oleksandr Maslak. The theme of his speech was the development of small and medium-agrarian business in the united communities and the support provided by the state in the development of such enterprises.
The seminar continued with the presentation of a series of mini-cheese-making projects, that was held by the entrepreneur Volodymyr Opryshko. The communication between the seminar participants and the owner of the cheese factory was accompanied by tasting the products of this company.
The presentation of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of SNAU Natalia Strochenko was devoted to the economic development of the territories. On the example of the activity of the cheese-making enterprise of Opryshko, she demonstrated the calculations of obtaining the added value. Natalia Strochenko emphasized the priority of using the financial possibilities of the UTC precisely for the implementation of the development projects that will ensure the economic growth of rural areas.
"The united communities are a prototype of all the local self-government of Ukraine in a few years’ time, so it is very important that the established communities acquire not only power, but also create a solid economic basis, which will be the key to their successful activity for many years" , - Nina Melnyk, the event moderator, noted.
